General journals and General ledgers are critical accounting documents. You may use them in your own business or your CPA may request them come tax-time.

Here’s how to view your General Journal:

A General Journal is basically a list of every transaction you’ve recorded, and how it affects each category in your chart of accounts.

  1. Log in to ZipBooks and click on Reports.

  2. In the Accounting and Tax section, select General Journal

  3. Customize your journal by adding tags, specifying dates, transactions, etc. (Simple view includes basic details like the amount of a transaction and the accounts it affected. Detailed includes any memos and tags you added on the transaction.)

  4. If desired, click Export.

Voila! A list of transactions and their respective debits and credits. Your accountant will thank you!

Here’s how to view your General Ledger:

A general ledger is a record of each transaction that is included in your financial statements. Transactions are sorted into groups like cash, accounts receivable, and sales.

  1. Log in to ZipBooks and click on Reports.

  2. In the Accounting and Tax section, select General Ledger

  3. Customize your ledger by adding tags, specifying dates, transactions, etc.

  4. If desired, click Export.
